Competitions

At Ipswich Futsal, we offer open gender social competitions to all age groups. When multiple divisions are present in an age group (i.e. seniors), we are able to grade our competitions to accommodate players of different skill and physical ability.

For our U6/7, U8/9 and U10/11 age groups, all games are non-competitive, meaning results aren’t publicly displayed. All other age groups/divisions are competitive, meaning match results will be published once the season proper starts.

Competition Rules

All Ipswich Futsal social competitions are run in accordance with the latest Ipswich Futsal Competition By-Laws & Regulations. You can view the full competition by-laws here.

Here’s all the important rules you need to know:

All players who take the court must be registered on Squadi. Exemptions may only be granted if:

  • The player is a trialist, that is, playing their first game in the current registration period
  • The player has shown they are experiencing technical difficulties registering on Squadi

Fielding an unregistered player without a valid exemption will result in a 6-0 forfeit loss against the offending team.

All teams must complete the team nomination form before taking the court. If the team nomination form is not working, the manager may email their team nomination to info@ipswichfutsal.com.au.

Players can be added to, or removed from, a team throughout the season at the front counter, or by emailing info@ipswichfutsal.com.au.

Players can only be nominated to one team per division.

In any competitive game, a team can field at most one (1) players that are members of a team from a higher division in the same age group. This includes borrowed players.

In some cases, an exemption to this rule may be granted. For example, an exemption may be granted if it’s deemed that a player’s ability is at a similar level to the lower division they play in.

The intention of the rule is to prevent too many high level players from playing down into lower divisions. Not to prevent lower level players from playing up into higher divisions.

In an open gender competition, there are no restrictions on the gender of each team’s players.

In a mixed competition, there must be at least one female on each team.

In any mixed match, at least one female must always be on the court for each team.

Goals scored by females count as two goals in a mixed competition

In a women’s or girl’s competition, only female players may partake.

Teams must not field any overage players, or any players from more than one age group below, unless they have an exemption.

All requests for an exemption must be emailed to info@ipswichfutsal.com.au.

The names of all team members will be printed on their team’s match sheet.

Each player (including borrowed players) must sign the match sheet.

A team will incur a 6-0 forfeit loss if:

  • They have less than three team members signed on the match sheet. This can be fixed up after the game if players/teams forget to complete the match sheet.
  • A player is found to have deliberately impersonated another player on the match sheet

The names of all borrowed players must be handwritten on the match sheet. Borrowed players acquired just before or after kick off can be added to the match sheet after the game.

The following rules regarding borrowed players only apply to competitive age groups & divisions (U12/13 and older).

A “borrowed player”, or a “fill in”, is defined as a player who plays for a team they are not a member of. When match sheets are electronically printed, team members are considered to be players names printed on the sheet.

A team can only borrow at most 2 players.

A team cannot borrow any further players when the sum of team members + borrowed players is at least 6.

That is;

  • 2 or less team members: no restrictions on borrowed players as the match will be recorded as a forfeit anyway
  • 3 team members: 2 borrowed players allowed
  • 4 team members: 2 borrowed player allowed
  • 5 or more team members: 1 borrowed player allowed
  • 6 or more team members: 0 borrowed players allowed

If a team member arrives late and makes 7 players including borrowed players, either:

  • One of the borrowed players must withdraw from the game; or
  • The team member must not participate in the game

All borrowed players must sign the match sheet for each match they participate in.

A team must not acquire any borrowed players for finals matches.

Teams will be fined $75 when they have less than two paying players (including paying borrowed players) for their game.

If your team is down on numbers we can assist with finding borrowed players.

Please note that if only 1 or 2 team members show up, the game will be recorded as a forfeit. However as stated above, the team would avoid financial penalty if two players pay their match fee.

All players who partake in finals must

  • Be registered on Squadi
  • Be fully financial
  • Be a member of the team
  • Have played at least one third (rounded to the nearest whole number) of their team’s matches prior to finals. Matches will only be counted to a player’s total if they have signed the match sheet.

Borrowed players are not allowed to participate in finals under any circumstances.

All players must wear shinpads. Shinpads and socks are sold at the canteen.

All players must wear non-marking shoes. That is, shoes with no studs and shoes that leave no tread marks on the floor. The majority of joggers and canvas shoes will be acceptable, however we highly recommend purchasing futsal shoes from a sports outlet.

Players on the same team need to wear shirts of matching colour. In case of colour clashes, numbered bibs will be provided.

Optionally, teams can wear numbered shirts. Only goals scored by team members (i.e. not borrowed players) with a shirt number will count towards each division’s golden boot award.

Ipswich Futsal competitions adhere to the FIFA Futsal Laws of the Game with the following variations:

  • Games have 18 minute halves with a 2 minute half time break and a 2 minute interval between games.
  • There is no stop clock
  • Defending players need to stand behind the yellow line in their own half at kick off. This variation does not apply in Senior A.
  • Players can only substitute behind the yellow line in their own half, unless there is a prolonged stoppage in play (e.g. injury)
  • Slide tackles are permitted only in Senior A. In any other age group or division, slide tackles are punishable by a direct free kick or penalty.

Unless stated otherwise, all Ipswich Futsal competitions are open gender, meaning there are no restrictions on the gender of players that take part.

Any player who receives four yellow cards across all competitions in any one season will incur a one match suspension.

Any player who receives six yellow cards across all competitions in any one season will incur a two match suspension.

Any player who receives eight yellow cards in any one season will incur a three match suspension and may be called to show cause.

A player shown a red card will be suspended for a minimum of one match in the division the player was sent off in.

A suspension applies across all divisions until it has been served in the division it was picked up in.

Red cards and suspensions can be appealed, which if considered, will carry a $200 appeal fee. All appeal requests must be emailed to info@ipswichfutsal.com.au.

Appendix A in the by-laws contains the Table of Offences and minimum/maximum suspension lengths.
